  • It is knowledge about self and how it influences others.
    • Conscious knowledge of one's own character and feelings.
    • Self Awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions.
    • Self Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment.
  • Self is the combination of I and me.
    • I is what you think of your self.
    • Me is what others think about you

Concept of Johari Window

  • The Johari Window model
    • Is a simple and useful tool for illustrating and improving self-awareness
    • Mutual understanding between individuals within a group.
  • The Johari Window model can also be used to assess and improve a group's relationship with other groups
  • The window consists of four segments (or panes) of human interaction:
    • Open
    • Hidden
    • Blind
    • Unknown

Known Area

  • This is an area where you are free to talk about yourself to others and others to you.
  • It is also referred to as the public area because it is known to everyone

Blind Spot

  • This is an area known to others about you but you do not yourself.
    • Example: being pushy to others or wanting things to be done your way but not aware that’s what you are doing.

Façade Or Mask

  • This is an area where you know something about yourself but you do not want others to know.
    • Example: when you are hurt you really want to cry but you don’t because you do not want others to see that side of you or think you are weak.

Unknown Area

  • An area not known to you or others but you can discover yourself or your potential.
  • This area is sometimes referred to as an area of discovery for new talents or potentials.
