Audit

- There is a legal requirement to audit (keep a record of) all emergency calls managed by the call centre.
- If someone has an undesirable outcome from their emergency they unfortunately like to blame everyone involved. This usually includes the ambulance service.
- There are codes used to document exactly which condition the patient has in order to accurately record exactly what the details were used for dispatch.
- It is ESSENTIAL to use the CORRECT dispatch code for every job (See Appendix 6).
- The list is extensive, the only way to know which codes are available to choose from is to study the document and familiarize yourself with the different code options.
- There is a place on the bottom right corner of the dispatch form (appendix 2) to fill in the dispatch code.
- There is a log sheet (Appendix 7 - Call audit sheet) for recording EVERY EMERGENCY CALL even if you don’t dispatch an ambulance.
- If no ambulance is dispatched write N/A (not applicable) in the dispatch code column.
