Safety for the caller is important and the caller should not become the victim as well
- Immediate use of fire extinguishers should be used appropriately and safely when putting out any fire
Major burns
- Stop the casualty from panicking, running around, or going outside; any movement or breeze will fan the flames
- Drop the casualty to the ground, if possible, wrap victim tightly in a fire
- blanket, or heavy fabric such as a coat, curtain, blanket or rug.
- DO NOT USE a nylon blanket or an open weave type of any material—acrylic, wool, cotton, or other
- Roll the casualty along the ground until the flames have been put off
- Isolate or cover burns sustained by the victim,
- The caller MUST NOT remove any clothing or try to pop any blister that have formed,
- The burnt area should be cooled with running cold water for about 10-15 minutes or fanning the area gently
- Wait for the ambulance to arrive.
